Eliquis does no better for preventing a blood clot in your legs (deep vein thrombosis) or lungs (pulmonary embolus) than warfarin, which costs $4 per month. Warfarin DOES require monitoring, but the lab tests can be very cheap. Warfarin may slightly cause more bleeding, but not enough usually to warrant a difference of $5,400 per year!
